IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE
EVERYONE MUST ALWAYS:
1: Prevent fire occurring by being careful with all sources of heat (smoking, heating and electrical appliances etc).
2: Know the means of escape provided from the premises.
3: Be familiar with the fire routine and obey fire notices.
4: Keep exits and stairways unobstructed.
5: Keep fire doors closed.
SHOULD YOU DISCOVER A FIRE:
1: Raise the Alarm. Activate one of the two fire alarm call points by pressing the front clear panel.
2: Warn people in the vicinity of the fire.
3: Only trained Fire Marshals should try to extinguish the fire, with an appropriate extinguisher, do not take personal risk, otherwise leave the building.
ON HEARING THE ALARM:
1: Give the necessary assistance to other people to ensure their safety.
2: Walk to the nearest available exit, then proceed to your designated assembly point which is:-
GRASS AREA AT THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING
ACT CALMLY, CLOSE ALL DOORS (to stop fire spreading)
3: Once you have reached your designated assembly point, Fire Marshals will register your attendance.
4: Fire Marshals to supervise the evacuation from their areas.
5: Remain outside at all times, even if the fire alarm stops sounding. Only re-enter the building when the instruction is given by your supervisor.
6: Make sure that all external doors and windows are kept closed.
7: On arrival of the Fire Service the officer-in-charge should be informed that all are safe or their last known position.
CALLING THE FIRE SERVICE
1: During office hours, contact reception and inform them of the location of the fire.
Outside these hours the most senior person on site must call the Fire Service immediately to every fire or on suspicion of fire.
2: Lift the receiver and dial 999 (or as shown on dial or in dialing instructions).
3: When the exchange operator answers, ask for FIRE; you will be connected to the Fire Service.
4: When the Fire Service operator replies give call distinctly: FIRE AT: –
